Prada Runway in Beijing

The crowd roared as the Pet Shop Boys hit the first notes of “Go West.” But Prada had come East, hosting a bubbly-fueled runway show, party, and performance on Saturday night at the Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum in Beijing.
The evening began with continuing rumors of an imminent Prada IPO: So important has China become to the luxury-goods market that some thought an announcement would be made at the event (it wasn’t). With business matters shunted aside, attention focused on the label’s Spring collections as models Arizona Muse, Fei Fei Sun, and Clement Chabernaud moseyed past front-row guests including actresses Gong Li and Maggie Cheung.
As always with Prada, glamour came in haute-culture garb. Among the other revelers packing the museum’s soaring atrium were top Chinese artists Xu Bing and 2010 Hugo Boss Prize finalist Cao Fei, as well as architects Yung Ho Chang and Ma Yansong. Even the entertainment was cast with a brainy bent. “They’re a great myth,” a beaming Miuccia Prada said of the Pet Shop Boys as Neil Tennant broke into “Suburbia” onstage. “They’re deep, pop intellectuals.”
The event was star-studded. With Gong Li, Maggie Cheung, Cecilia Cheung and Tang Wei in attendance, the runway event was electrifying. Held at the Central Academy of Fine Arts museum, the event was well covered by both global and the Chinese media.
Already the world’s fastest-growing market for luxury goods, it is forecast to be the world’s top market of apparel and beauty products by 2015.

Prada has announced it is planning for another 30 stores in China and looks set to have 45 stores in the country by end 2012.
Rumoured to be considering a possible listing on the Hong Kong stock exchange, it will be opening a design studio in Hong Kong.

The dress that thinks it's a skirt and a top

When it comes to multi-functional fashion, doubling up my beach sarong as an evening top is as far as I've got.
But now Wolford has created the Fatal dress - a seamless tube of stretchy fabric also designed to be worn in multiple ways - and at £89, it's much more of a bargain.
So would it give me the sculpted curves of model Giselle or cling mockingly to every lump and bump?
Made of 93 per cent nylon and 7 per cent elastane, the Fatal comes in extra small, small and medium sizes (and 12 different colours), and, surprisingly for such a delicate fabric, is machine washable.
It can be worn as a long dress, short dress, pencil or mini skirt, top or wide belt. It sounds like the ultimate investment - several outfits for the price of one - and a dream solution for a holiday suitcase.
I feel suitably excited - until the Fatal arrives. It's a minuscule square of wafer-thin material which unfurls to reveal what looks like an overgrown elastic boob tube.
It barely looks big enough to wear as a scarf, let alone cover my size ten frame. Quite frankly, it doesn't look like it's going to do my summer-pudding tummy any favours.
There's a style guide included in the box. First, I go for the full-length maxi-dress.
The lack of seams causes initial confusion about which way round it goes before I locate a tiny label that indicates which end is the top.
Stepping into the tube, I wriggle it up to my shoulders.
Worn this way, without folding it over, the dress borders on see-through and feels too flimsy to hold in my curves. It shows up everything and feels cheap - more Blackpool than Barbados. It's skin-tight, hard to walk in and I simply don't feel comfortable.
But the beauty of the Fatal is if you don't like it, you change it. So I swiftly move on to folding the material up to make a knee-length dress - and voila!
Yes it's still tight, but as I double the fabric over it suddenly seems to have a miraculous Spanx-like effect and works like a tummy control panel. I'm astonished. My midriff has suddenly flattened and everything appears more toned.
    * Best dressed bump! Vanity Fair's voted her a fashion icon - so how does SamCam stay so glam with a baby on the way?
    * Kelly Brook: Finding clothes that suit my curvy shape has been a struggle
I feel like I've been lipo-ed, or at least that I've stuck to my bikini diet. Folding it over again from the top creates a chic pencil skirt that makes my bum look pert.
It looks great with a T-shirt and heels. The results are getting better and better. Rather than creasing as you fold it over, the fabric lies smoother, and instead of adding bulk it shaves off inches.
The secret is the more you fold, the better the body-sculpting effect, and it's all about finding the fold that best flatters your shape.
I try it out doubled up as a strapless top, then as a longer length top, which gives a fantastic corset-effect on my waist. It also works well as a super-comfortable tummy-controlling tube-dress worn over leggings and even as a waist-cinching belt.
Depending on your figure - and your daring - there really are endless possibilities on how you wear it. That's my holiday packing sorted.

The dress that suits EVERY shape the perfect fit

Sighs of relief are reverberating around the country. According to U.S. Glamour magazine, there is one dress type that flatters every size and shape.
It is suitable for the office, yet sexy enough for a date - and affordable, too. This wonder garment is the jersey dress. Its draped front, three-quarter sleeves, longish length, cinched waist and clever ruching means it solves any problem even the most self-conscious woman can come up with.
Better still, it’s the sort of dress popularised by Brazilian designer Issa,
On trend: Liz Jones, left, says the jersey dress, popularised by Kate Middleton, right, suits and flatters every figure but that the bigger the girl, the better it looks
But does this style of dress really flatter every figure?
the dress does look fabulous on all these women; playing up good points and disguising the bad points. The petite woman in particular is not swamped by this style, while the plus-size model looks pretty damn sexy.
I represented the tall, slim and ancient category, with a flat chest and flatter bottom thrown in for good measure.
But I think my shape is the least flattered by this style. You need curves to make it interesting and draping works better over a round bottom, while the plunging neckline looks better if you have breasts.
This style is great for my upper arms, but it doesn’t disguise my non-existent chest. If you are tall and thin, you need tailoring to give you definition.
But who cares. Skinny beanpoles with flat buttocks have myriad choices out there. This is one dress that gets better the bigger the girl. Amen to that.

Prom dress diamond encrusted gown

A Philadelphia online boutique  a diamond-encrusted prom dress for teenage girls prepping for their swanky high school ball.
While the average buyer spends  for an evening dress for the prom, online retailer DressGoddess will customize a strapless, silver dress by sewing diamonds  into the bodice of the gown, the retailer's owner Jon Liney told NewsCore Thursday.

The original version of the floor-length dress with a thigh-high slit, designed by La Femme, comes with sequins and retails but Liney came up with the idea of replacing them with more high-priced sparklers.
The diamond version of the dress, first announced at the end of February, is made-on-demand and the dress boutique has received two orders so far.
While the online seller did not ask the buyers what function they would wear the dresses for, they "got the sense they were not for prom girls."
The concept of such a pricey dress might sound outrageous for the teenage soiree, but Liney said with shows like MTV's "My Super Sweet 16" and the budgets of some parents, "it's not outrageous to think someone might actually spend that on a prom dress."
As prom season approaches, girls around the US are swarming to shops to find their perfect fashion match for the teen bash.
The sleek, sophisticated look has replaced the puffy-sleeve, satin frocks of yesteryears but "longs still outsell the shorts," Liney noted.

The dress that will spark a thousand imitations

fashion director at You & Your Wedding magazine, suggested the new royal bride would opt for something traditional, but with a modern twist.
'The dress would have to be a lot grander than most of the dresses we see in real life. She's got a great figure so in a way she can carry off most dresses, she added.
Britain's fashion industry will be hoping Kate will fly the flag for the UK and pick a home-grown talent to work on her dress.
Keeping to tradition would be an important consideration for the future Princess. 'Something like a bright red dress isn't going to work because it would offend,
'The good old British public would be outraged. We expect the royal family to keep to tradition. She's never going to please everybody so I think she will go down the traditional route but hopefully with an added something - a modern twist.
'For years people were wearing versions of Diana's dress. It should have been celebrated at the moment and then left.
Oldfield, known for his stylish, glamorous creations, was once Diana's favourite couturier. He has described Kate Middleton in the past as more 'sophisticated' than 'Shy Di' and 'clean and fresh', adding: 'I do think Kate Middleton actually looks very good.'
Lepley, based on the Fulham Road in London, makes simple elegant couture bridal gowns.
'It's for very posh English girls. Lots of lace, very understated, but if you know, you know,'
Whatever the future Queen finally chooses to walk down the aisle in, it is likely to influence bridal wear for years to come.
For Britain's fashion industry, this new wedding could be a chance for domestic talent to shine on a very public global stage.
'It would always be good to choose British because we have so many fantastic designers here. 'They are very capable and I am very supportive of the British industry.'
