Nude Maxi Dresses

Let's face it, the maxi isn't going away. Believe me when I say it has just began.
Since ever, the maxi has been a must for black tie events. A lot of beachwear kaftans and coverups are maxis as well. But how can it translate into our everyday life? I don't see it blend in well into an office look - unless you're a fashion magazine editor, perhaps you can try a tailored maxi skirt. Still, for a day out, a weekend, or a dinner party - the maxi dress is your friend.
Alright, so you've decided to go for it, but what color should you choose? What style? The big volume of maxi dresses we see on the streets and in the stores today are either in loud tacky prints, white or black.
So ... banal. Nude color, on the right fabric, will make the outfit look chic and will get you all the right attention. This fact alone turns a simple maxi dress into a statement piece.
For this fall, Alberta Ferretti, Sonia Rykiel, Aquascrutum and Victoria Beckham, all incorporated a nude maxi dress look into their collections. Their looks of coarse are indended for the red carpet and are in the higher price scale, to put it mildly. But fear not, I've made a list of four dresses that will help you achieve the same chic look, but translate it into a more casual price range.

New Zealand Fashion Festival

Just when we thought it had all gone quite on the fashion front after February’s Autumn/Winter catwalks across the world had come to a close. New Zealand, a country with a buzzing fashion industry brings us their Fashion Festival this Month  to keep the energy alive.
the fashion industry are coming together in Auckland, New Zealand for the New Zealand Fashion Festival. Following its successful launch in early 2010, the event is back and hotter than ever. Headlining at the Festival will be four nights of group fashion collections shown on the catwalk. The collections will be a handpicked selection of both high end and high street labels. Toronto Fashion Week

TORONTO–Not all designers walk the same runway. In true fashion week style, many presented their collections far away from the glossy white stage. Here are three must-know labels that left us wanting more.
Known as “The Jersey Boys of Toronto,” Greta Constantine designers Stephen Wong and Kirk Pickersgill have won the hearts of many who don their draped wonders from the runway to red carpet. This season, the pair ventured out on a global escapade and debuted a collection interwoven with a multitude of inspirations that seemingly reflected the multicultural tapestry of Canada. From Japanese cuts to Tibetan shapes, the label satisfied the taste of those with a nomadic sense of style.
One of the most highly anticipated shows of the season was the return of Arthur Mendonça, who escaped the public eye following bankruptcy in 2008. The once golden boy of the Canadian fashion scene made a triumphant return to the runway with a collection that oozed sex appeal from first to last look. Set to the track “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie, Mendonça enriched his line-up with luxe jewel tones that nodded to the silhouettes of Yves Saint Laurent but with contemporary fluidity. The designer, who once showed during New York Fashion Week, will undoubtedly reign again come fall.
Notable menswear tailor Philip Sparks made his second foray into womenswear with a collection that polished up the traditional Canadiana look. As his rosy-cheeked models sauntered down the runway in the city’s historic Burroughes Building (think Milk Studios, but rustic), we took note of the boldly printed dresses in macro maple leaves and the range of dark Melton coats made for him and her. Sparks’ traditional cuts and references to Canadian heritage mark him as the next top designer to brand the nation with smart style.

Dream Prom Dresses

When I went to the prom over a decade ago, Marc by Marc Jacobs didn’t exist. Our options were thus: Caché, Jessica McClintock, BCBG and if your mom could afford it, Betsey Johnson. Of course many of us opted for vintage. I, for one, wore a gunmetal gown with a little black cardigan on top, inspired by a Calvin Klein ensemble Gwyneth Paltrow chose for a red carpet appearance in the late 1990s.
But then there’s Steff, who wore Marc Jacobs collection to her prom. (Yeah, that’s right. She wore the dress again last year to the Whitney Art Party. It’s amazing.) Leah spent a pretty penny, but wasn’t as happy with the results. “I bought (what I then considered) a very expensive beaded BCBG gown. I also thought it was the prettiest dress ever,” she says. “Then coming back from a boozy pre-graduation beach week in Delaware (which is some DC schools’ ritual) my friends and I stopped at a Loehmann’s and I bought a slutty, pink postage stamp of a dress for $50 and wore that instead.” Don’t worry though, she wore the pretty BCBG dress to a wedding, and had a fever on prom and went home early so the slutty tube dress didn’t get much play.
But even if we loved our dresses, there are so many amazing options out there now–from Target to Forever 21 to H&M–that we’re pretty sure we could have found something even better if we were graduating in 2011.
Are you going to prom this year? What will you wear? If prom was long ago, what would you choose if you could do it all over again?

The dress that suits EVERY shape the perfect fit

Sighs of relief are reverberating around the country. According to U.S. Glamour magazine, there is one dress type that flatters every size and shape.
It is suitable for the office, yet sexy enough for a date - and affordable, too. This wonder garment is the jersey dress. Its draped front, three-quarter sleeves, longish length, cinched waist and clever ruching means it solves any problem even the most self-conscious woman can come up with.
Better still, it’s the sort of dress popularised by Brazilian designer Issa,
On trend: Liz Jones, left, says the jersey dress, popularised by Kate Middleton, right, suits and flatters every figure but that the bigger the girl, the better it looks
But does this style of dress really flatter every figure?
the dress does look fabulous on all these women; playing up good points and disguising the bad points. The petite woman in particular is not swamped by this style, while the plus-size model looks pretty damn sexy.
I represented the tall, slim and ancient category, with a flat chest and flatter bottom thrown in for good measure.
But I think my shape is the least flattered by this style. You need curves to make it interesting and draping works better over a round bottom, while the plunging neckline looks better if you have breasts.
This style is great for my upper arms, but it doesn’t disguise my non-existent chest. If you are tall and thin, you need tailoring to give you definition.
But who cares. Skinny beanpoles with flat buttocks have myriad choices out there. This is one dress that gets better the bigger the girl. Amen to that.

How To Choose Simple Elegant Pom Dresses

Prom is a pivotal milestone in a young woman’s life. Key to that milestone is the choice of the perfect but simple elegant prom dress. Unlike any other dress, with the exception of a wedding gown, this dress will be memorialized in the photographic history of her life. It is a lot of pressure. Here are some ways to be sure that you choose a simple but elegant prom dress that is perfect for your body type.

Full-Figured

A simple but elegant prom dress is easy to find for the young woman with a full or curvy body style. Choose a prom dress in a solid dark shade. Darker shades are slimming. A haltered neckline is very flattering for this body type. Dress length can be either full length or just below the knee. Look for simple lines; avoid flounce and a lot of excess material, but don’t have it too tight – this only emphasises any minor imperfactions. Using these guidelines you can’t miss, when choosing the perfect elegant and simple prom dress.

Tall and Lean
If you are tall, you can easily be the bell of the ball, by choosing a short length dress. Shorter dresses reduce the appearance of height. Don’t be afraid to choose a dress with lots of details or ruffles. On you, these prom dresses appear simple and elegant. Another good option for you is a dress with an asymmetrical hemline.
If you are thin, you will want to shy away from solid colors and look for gowns with patterned fabric. Patterned fabrics add weight to you visually. You may also want to consider a prom dress that gathers at the hip (ruching), as this style, gives the illusion of curves. With just these few limitations, you are sure to find the perfect prom dress.
Petite
If you are petite, the silhouetted-hugging, sheath-style dress is a simple elegant prom dress choice for you. You can wear either solid shades or patterns.

Avoid dresses with very full skirts, as they tend to overwhelm the visual. Whether you choose off the shoulder, backless, or a plunging neckline, you are sure to find a simple but elegant prom dress that will wow everyone.

Prom is a milestone night. It represents an emerging into the adult world. Make the preparation for the night as memorable as the night itself. Armed with these few simple guidelines to find the perfect dress, you can have a wonderful time trying on and buying the dress that is perfect for you. And 30 years from now, you’ll still be proud of the way you looked in that dress.
