Spring -Summer Maxi Trend

'Maxi' is the key word for the upcoming warm season, describing the already famous ground-skimming dresses, but also long skirts and elegant jumpsuits. There are breezy, sheer fabrics and a riot of dazzling colors, romantic florals, and sexy animal prints. Besides, the eternal, old faithful white is back again proving that its classic beauty and sophistication will never go out of style. Take a look at some of the hottest spring/summer 2011 maxi trends.
Spring can definitely be felt in the air. And with the warm season just around the corner, it's time to invest into a beautiful maxi dress. There is no doubt that when it comes to the maxi trend, whether it's a dress, skirt or jumpsuit, these items can be a real knockout. We have fallen in love with floor-sweepers as these are exactly what we need during hot summer days. They are utterly romantic and feminine regardless the occasion. Wear them at the beach, in the park, at festivals and cocktail parties.
This season's catwalks were an explosion of flowing maxis. Among a riot of floral and wild animal prints, there is the classic white and second-skin shades that can make you get the wow-factor despite their apparent simplicity. Spotted at Dolce & Gabbana, Antonio Marras, Tommy Hilfiger, white is the best choice when the heat outside becomes rather unbearable, proving once again that it can be as effective as a bright color. Besides, you can also opt for nude alternatives as seen at Max Azria and Ports 1961.
The maxi trend proved to be very adaptable, being reinvented season after season. If what you want is to step out of the box and try something bolder, then the splash of dazzling brights should be your source of inspiration. The catwalks were full of boldly clashing combinations that seem to break all fashion rules. Extravagant and fascinating maxi dresses, skirt and jumpsuits in bright colors were spotted at Jil Sander, Paul & Joe, Issa and Sonya Rykiel, among others. Or, if the occasion requires something more elegant and colorful, make a special entrance in bold red by Lanvin or Valentino.
Now, for spring/summer 2011 maxi trend we can speak about two extremes. First, there is the oh-so-romantic and adorable version with sweet floral prints seen on maxi dresses, skirts and jumpsuits (D&G, Etro, Ralph Lauren, Rebecca Taylor, Erdem). Sweet, chic and utterly modern, the long dresses with cute florals are gently floating around the body expressing maximum femininity and an eternal bohemian flair. On the other hand, there is the wild, sexy side with the already famous leopard print (Just Cavalli, Blumarine), which represents your best ticket for a wow-factor entrance. Instead, if you are not so much into floral or animal prints, you can always try graphic or ethnic patterns (Emilio Pucci, Luca Luca).

Spring/Summer Fashion Trend

The warm season comes with an array of dazzling, solar, bright colors, delicious tangerine hues, explosions of flowers, sweet, innocent whites and nudes, flowing cuts and soft fabrics, eternal denim items, and various daring combinations that exude femininity and sophistication. Spring/summer 2011 fashion trends are extremely complex and bold, yet stylish and chic. Take a look to some of the hottest elements for the upcoming season and get ready to energize and update your wardrobe!
New season requires new trends! It's time we upgrade our wardrobe as spring/summer 2011 fashion trends are here with a playful, fun and energetic vibe.
An amazing burst of bright colors, a wide palette of delicious tangerine, explosion of flowers, an optimistic feel of the '70s, innocent white lace and pure second-skin shades, timeless denim, versatile crisp white shirts, and flowing maxi dresses are among the hottest trends for the warm season that is just around the corner.
During spring everything comes to life, even our dull winter wardrobe. If during the cold season we are not so daring when it comes to wearing vibrant colors, summer instead is perfect for trying fruity, delicious shades. Well, spring/summer 2011 fashion trends make no exception as they come with a riot of brights brightening up our boring outfits. After the famous camel, it is time for tangerine to spice up your wardrobe. This season don't be afraid to break all fashion rules and mix dazzling bright colors at ease. On the other hand, if you are not sure the "color blocking" trend suits you, wear a dress in a candy color or pair brights with neutrals.
For romantic girls who are not so much into brights, designers proposed nude and the already classic white, two graceful colors that flawlessly add a fresh, innocent, yet feminine vibe to a summer look. The boho, adorable touch brought by a white clothing item is emphasized by the fabrics and details used such as lace, crochet and macramé. Second-skin colors are so hot for spring/summer 2011 as long as you choose the most flattering shade for your skin complexion. However, if you don't want a head-to-toe nude look, try to adorn your dress with cute black bows such as spotted at Jill Stuart. So feminine and pure!
Lovely flowers already became a timeless print and they add a vibrant and youthful flair. Spring/summer 2011 cannot make exception and designers brought a wide range of floral prints to add a playful feel to our wardrobe. Liberty, Asian-inspired, or tropical, get ready to see a real explosion of floral prints for the upcoming season. Maxi dresses, shorts, blouses, footwear, and different accessories are all beautifully embellished by chic, romantic floral prints. Besides flowers, bold graphic stripes or animal prints are the opposite of all adorable details and great if you want a wilder approach.
Among the riot of different fashion trends, we can also find a special '70-inspired vibe. We have seen the trend at Marc Jacobs through amazing '70s dresses, Just Cavalli through captivating patchworks, Anna Sui with round-shaped sunglasses, knitted shorts and denim vests, and Derek Lam through extremely stylish flared jeans worn with crisp white shirts. Well, since we are speaking of jeans, you should know that denim is back again for spring/summer 2011. Moreover, it seems that the head-to-toe denim look is so hot for the upcoming season.
The warm season means comfortable outfits and soft, breezy fabrics. Therefore, designers came with appropriate pieces in order to meet all your expectations. Maxi, flowing dresses and fashionable jumpsuits are some of the items that were so trendy last summer, yet they made a strong comeback in 2011. For chic, elegant appearances, but also for more effortless, laid-back looks, you should know that the white shirt is one key item that can be paired with feminine skirts, loose jeans, or sexy shorts. Despite its simplicity, the classic white shirt proved it's versatility and elegance, while designers came with a wide range of white shirts and various stylish combinations.

Sneak Peek dress Fall

While we still have barely seen the signs of Spring here in NYC, the Fall collections previews are in full swing, making it even harder to wait few months for the pieces to hit the stores.
Ann Taylor previewed its Fall 2011 Collection last night at the trendy Beauty & Essex spot in NYC. The signature Ann Taylor working woman style was refreshed with rich, bold colors mixed with neutrals, luxe textures, rich knits and modern details.
While guests observed the new looks and accessories, fashion DJ duo Mia Moretti spun throughout the evening, with a special musical performance by Bebel Gilberto.
Check out some of the "it" looks from the Fall look book: the Navy Shirt Dress in the main photo, the Sleeveless Trench Topper, the Signature Twill Trouser and the Downtown Wool Cape (a must have for Fall!) in the photos bellow.

The Silver Sequin Dress

Stumped on what to wear to ring in the New Year? Don’t fret, LadyLUX has you covered ... in silver sequins. Taking a style cue from the ball drop itself, if there is ever a year to don metallic, glittery wear, it’s on the night of Dec. 31. From Anna Sui to Alice & Olivia, there are plenty of sparkly numbers that will have you attracting eyes on the dance floor.
Aiden Mattox offers an off-the-shoulder sequin dress. Showing a little skin makes it sassy, but it’s also comfortable in a loose fitting drape, and the sash flatters and cinches the waist. The Cara Sequined Dress by Alice & Olivia is versatile, and its short, straight shape allows it to compliment most body types. Pair it with a nice pair of pumps, and your legs will look miles high as you dance away. One can never go wrong by reinventing a classic. Find your inner flapper with Anna Sui’s embellished holiday dress. The sleeveless mesh dress with feather trim will be the source of champagne chatter. Try it with vintage-inspired hosiery for a real “wow” factor.
Jovani’s Silver Cocktail Dress is all in the details. Arranged like scales, the sequins are artfully placed in an art deco design with nude sheer fabric complimenting the beading. Maybe subtlety is your thing. Brian Lichtenberg’s hooded dress is hip and funky, yet not too casual to wear to a New Year’s Eve party. This piece lets you simultaneously show off the silvery shade and a no-fear approach to fashion in the New Year.
Last but not least, Literature Noir offers a very simple piece for a gal that just wants to sparkle without the fuss of details, edgy design or showing a lot of skin. It’s flirty yet sophisticated in a V-neck cut tank dress. No one will mistake where the party girl is headed when she’s spotted in this sparkling piece.

Nude Maxi Dresses

Let's face it, the maxi isn't going away. Believe me when I say it has just began.
Since ever, the maxi has been a must for black tie events. A lot of beachwear kaftans and coverups are maxis as well. But how can it translate into our everyday life? I don't see it blend in well into an office look - unless you're a fashion magazine editor, perhaps you can try a tailored maxi skirt. Still, for a day out, a weekend, or a dinner party - the maxi dress is your friend.
Alright, so you've decided to go for it, but what color should you choose? What style? The big volume of maxi dresses we see on the streets and in the stores today are either in loud tacky prints, white or black.
So ... banal. Nude color, on the right fabric, will make the outfit look chic and will get you all the right attention. This fact alone turns a simple maxi dress into a statement piece.
For this fall, Alberta Ferretti, Sonia Rykiel, Aquascrutum and Victoria Beckham, all incorporated a nude maxi dress look into their collections. Their looks of coarse are indended for the red carpet and are in the higher price scale, to put it mildly. But fear not, I've made a list of four dresses that will help you achieve the same chic look, but translate it into a more casual price range.

New Zealand Fashion Festival

Just when we thought it had all gone quite on the fashion front after February’s Autumn/Winter catwalks across the world had come to a close. New Zealand, a country with a buzzing fashion industry brings us their Fashion Festival this Month  to keep the energy alive.
the fashion industry are coming together in Auckland, New Zealand for the New Zealand Fashion Festival. Following its successful launch in early 2010, the event is back and hotter than ever. Headlining at the Festival will be four nights of group fashion collections shown on the catwalk. The collections will be a handpicked selection of both high end and high street labels. America’s Next Top Model‘s for Sears Canada

With top dollars spent on splashy campaigns and a media circuit run that would make your head spin, Manuel’s new line attitude left a lasting first impression.
The show, which ran an hour late, opened with a mini-montage that documented Manuel’s deep involvement with the label, from concept to completion. From sketching to sewing, the clip almost had us fooled that Manuel created the pieces himself, but alas his title still read “Creative Director.”
As the lights dimmed and music blared, the first look hit the glossy black runway and the show’s “special guest” arrived, veteran model Yasmin Warsame (perhaps Tyra was to busy hitting the books or washing her face). What followed Warsame’s power strut were a string of work wear looks that spoke to the masses. From mundane to matronly, Manuel’s high fashion taste didn’t seem to cross the border.
But where were those references to “worldly inspirations” that influenced the collection? Perhaps it was Manuel’s nod to fallen star John Galliano and the boudoir make-up from his Spring 2011 show in Paris. Although the look was flawless then, Manuel paired the finger waves and penciled brows with oddly belted purses and faux-fur apparel.
After 37 looks, and a model who geisha-ed down the runway, Manuel (dressed in a Tom Ford suit) took his bow to an awe struck crowd. So where does this leave us? Perhaps the “celebrity-infused” collections should be left to the retail masters, like H&M and Uniqlo, as it’s been proven here that any other attempts seem fit for the clearance rack.
But maybe Manuel will redeem himself next season. It’s been confirmed the silver-haired host will bring us many collections to come.

Toronto Fashion Week

TORONTO–Not all designers walk the same runway. In true fashion week style, many presented their collections far away from the glossy white stage. Here are three must-know labels that left us wanting more.
Known as “The Jersey Boys of Toronto,” Greta Constantine designers Stephen Wong and Kirk Pickersgill have won the hearts of many who don their draped wonders from the runway to red carpet. This season, the pair ventured out on a global escapade and debuted a collection interwoven with a multitude of inspirations that seemingly reflected the multicultural tapestry of Canada. From Japanese cuts to Tibetan shapes, the label satisfied the taste of those with a nomadic sense of style.
One of the most highly anticipated shows of the season was the return of Arthur Mendonça, who escaped the public eye following bankruptcy in 2008. The once golden boy of the Canadian fashion scene made a triumphant return to the runway with a collection that oozed sex appeal from first to last look. Set to the track “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie, Mendonça enriched his line-up with luxe jewel tones that nodded to the silhouettes of Yves Saint Laurent but with contemporary fluidity. The designer, who once showed during New York Fashion Week, will undoubtedly reign again come fall.
Notable menswear tailor Philip Sparks made his second foray into womenswear with a collection that polished up the traditional Canadiana look. As his rosy-cheeked models sauntered down the runway in the city’s historic Burroughes Building (think Milk Studios, but rustic), we took note of the boldly printed dresses in macro maple leaves and the range of dark Melton coats made for him and her. Sparks’ traditional cuts and references to Canadian heritage mark him as the next top designer to brand the nation with smart style.

Dream Prom Dresses

When I went to the prom over a decade ago, Marc by Marc Jacobs didn’t exist. Our options were thus: Caché, Jessica McClintock, BCBG and if your mom could afford it, Betsey Johnson. Of course many of us opted for vintage. I, for one, wore a gunmetal gown with a little black cardigan on top, inspired by a Calvin Klein ensemble Gwyneth Paltrow chose for a red carpet appearance in the late 1990s.
But then there’s Steff, who wore Marc Jacobs collection to her prom. (Yeah, that’s right. She wore the dress again last year to the Whitney Art Party. It’s amazing.) Leah spent a pretty penny, but wasn’t as happy with the results. “I bought (what I then considered) a very expensive beaded BCBG gown. I also thought it was the prettiest dress ever,” she says. “Then coming back from a boozy pre-graduation beach week in Delaware (which is some DC schools’ ritual) my friends and I stopped at a Loehmann’s and I bought a slutty, pink postage stamp of a dress for $50 and wore that instead.” Don’t worry though, she wore the pretty BCBG dress to a wedding, and had a fever on prom and went home early so the slutty tube dress didn’t get much play.
But even if we loved our dresses, there are so many amazing options out there now–from Target to Forever 21 to H&M–that we’re pretty sure we could have found something even better if we were graduating in 2011.
Are you going to prom this year? What will you wear? If prom was long ago, what would you choose if you could do it all over again?

Wedding Gown Trends

2011 might seem like a long way off, but bridal gown designers are already hard at work creating the beautiful styles which brides next year will all be coveting. Set to debut in a few months, the first crop of 2011 gowns are embellished with many dimensional details, lots of handstitched crystals, and large floral appliques. Take a sneak peek into the romantic style of the latest wedding gown trends.
For the last few seasons, ruffles have been one of the biggest ways that designers have chosen to add volume and visual interest to their gowns. The bridal gowns which are set to debut soon move away from the ruffle trend, but not from the idea of using embellishments to add volume and femininity. Instead of ruffles, look for gowns with hundreds of tiny three dimensional flowers stitched all over them. Soft petals are another favorite decoration for the romantic gowns for 2011. Oversized clusters of flower "corsages" are another big trend, and they are primarily being used as accents on waistlines or shoulders.
One thing you will not be seeing is a lot of plain dresses or those with simple lines. Asymmetry is still in, both in the form of the one shoulder gown and wedding dresses with asymmetrical draping on the bodice. Very low waistlines are in abundance, and most bodices have ruched, gathered, or draped bodices which hug the figure (the wrapped fabric does a nice job of smoothing over any figure flaws in these tight bodices). Certainly strapless bridal gowns are still a staple, and the one shoulder style is still in style. A new addition to the necklines for 2011 wedding gowns is the tip of the shoulder design which is very slim at the top and just barely grazes the edge of the bride's shoulder. It is a very flattering neckline for many women, and a nice alternative to the more typical strapless wedding dress.
With all the romanticism evident in the upcoming gowns for 2011, don't worry that all the petals and flowers mean less sparkle. You will be seeing Swarovski crystals stitched into the center of tiny floral appliques, as well as larger crystals used to embellish the entire gown, from neck to hem. The difference is in the way the sparkly details are being used: more organically and in clear crystal, rather than the icy silver of mirror backed crystals or rhinestones used to create a defined pattern. This will tie in beautifully with the Swarovski crystal bracelets which are one of the top trends for both 2010 and 2011 brides. Stacks of mismatched Swarovski crystal and pearl bracelets are a modern finishing touch for the romantic gown designs.
It seems as though all of the bridal designers will be crazy for texture in 2011. Not only will gowns soon be gliding down the runway embellished with floral appliques and oversized crystals, but designers are using even more interesting accents to create gowns with dimension. Look for multiple sizes of paillettes being used to create a shimmery, faceted appearance on gowns. (Paillettes are essentially larger and nicer versions of sequins, and they are often drilled at the top instead of the center so they can dangle and move.) Even feathers are making a statement as a trendy bridal gown embellishment. These fantastical details are being added to very soft and romantic fabrics like net, lace, and organza to create gowns which are like something out of a fairy tale. Lucky brides!

Spring 2011 Wedding Dress Trends

Designers recently debuted their Spring 2011 wedding dress collections. The overall focus is on gowns that are feminine, soft and fashion-forward.
One of the most sweeping trends are "three-dimensional" dresses made of Tulle and Organza. There is also move toward slimmer silhouettes and less emphasis on embellishments. The most fashion-forward dresses focus on using beautiful fabrics that are draped, layered and detailed. The trends in wedding dresses also includes Color, colored trims, Princess and Mermaid styles.
Colored Dresses - The Avante-Garde Bride will have more options than ever to select a colored gown. Vera Wang showcased a Deep Gray Silk Tulle gown in her Spring Collection. The intricately crafted flowers on the bodice and skirt add dimension and the Black Satin sash enhances the waistline.
Colored Trims - For the Brides that haven't completely embraced wearing a colored gown, they may opt to incorporate color in their sash or ribbon. The choice of color can be very personal or it may be a color that coordinates with wedding colors. Elle Couture Designs added to her collection with a wedding dress made of Silk Tissue Taffeta, detailed with Alencon Lace that is embellished with Swarovski crystals. A Black Satin ribbon was used to add a striking touch of drama and sophistication.
Organza and Tulle - Dresses made of Organza or Tulle are light and airy and a perfect choice for weddings taking place in the warmer months. Many designers are using multiple layers to create volume and creating ruffles from these fabrics. Marchesa utilizes layering of long ruffles that resemble the petals on a flower.

The Mermaid silhouette continues to be popular. While this style is not suited for every woman, the lucky ones will no doubt exude a sense of sensuality and femininity. Pronovias is a designer that consistently creates elegant, feminine wedding dresses that are stylish and modern with a sense of romance.

Asymmetrical Necklines - For women who like one-shoulder dresses, Designers are continuing to include this style in their Spring collections. This style show off the shoulders and neck while the design also provides comfort and is secure to wear throughout the wedding festivities. The design is modern, chic and sophisticated. Carolina Herrera showcased gowns with the asymmetrical neckline that draw attention to the neck, shoulders and upper back, and are ideal for a variety of wedding styles and settings.

Princess (A-Line) - The traditional silhouette of the Princess (also called an A-Line) gown continues to be the most popular style. Women of varying shapes and sizes can easily wear this gown and is suited for all types of weddings. Christos gowns combine the layering of Tulle to create a soft silhouette and emphasizes the natural waistline.
Just as fashion is always changing to keep up with today's modern woman, the wedding industry will also continue to evolve and change to represent today's modern bride. The most important thing to keep in mind is to choose the gown you love and one that suits your body type. You want to exude confidence and be radiant on your wedding day, which can be achieved by staying true to your personality, style and taste and not letting a "trend" dictate your choice in a gown.
